La Salle spikers complete sweep of Ateneo, relegate Lady Eagles to No. 3 spot

THREE-peat seeking La Salle defeated Ateneo, 26-24, 25-17, 25-19, to sweep the second round of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the MOA Arena.

Graduating players Kim Dy and Majoy Baron finished with 13 and nine points, respectively, for the Lady Spikers, who entered the match already locked into the No. 1 spot, ending the eliminations with a 12-2 win-loss record.

 “Siguro kasi we're treating every game like it's our last, so siyempre all out na kami. It's now or never every game,” said Dy.

Des Cheng and Tin Tiamzon combined for 23 points as La Salle completed a sweep of the elims matches against Ateneo for the first time since Season 76.

No. 2 FEU takes on third seed Ateneo on Saturday, while top seed La Salle faces No. 4 National University on Sunday at the MOA Arena.

Kat Tolentino scored 15 points for Ateneo, skipper Maddie Madayag had eight and Jhoana Maraguinot chipped in six markers in the one-hour and 23-minute match.

The La Salle-Ateneo match drew 23,243 spectators at the MOA Arena.
