DEFENDING champion La Salle ripped winless University of the East, 25-18, 25-14, 25-16, on Sunday for its third straight win in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Kim Dy scored 12 and Ernestine Tiamzon added 11 points as the Lady Spikers recorded their fifth win in six matches, later gaining a share of the lead with Ateneo, which topples erstwhile unbeaten University of the Philippines.

“So napakalaking tulong nitong panalo namin na straight sets against UE kasi at least kahit papano may paguhugutan ang mga bata pagdating ng Saturday game (against Ateneo),” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus, although he admitted that he’s far from satisfied with the team’s performance.

“Actually nasa stage pa rin kami ng adjustment kahit papano meron naman akong nakikitang resulta,” said De Jesus.

“Pero hindi pa ako satisfied sa galaw ng mga bata kasi may mga nakikita pa akong unforced errors like sa service so medyo kulang pa,” he added after the match that lasted an hour and 16 minutes.

Mary Anne Mendrez scored nine, while Judith Abil added eight points for UE, winless in six matches.
