UNIVERSITY of the Philippines’ Kathy Bersola is out for the remainder of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament with a torn knee ligament.

Lady Maroons coach Gerry Yee on Thursday confirmed Bersola, last season's best blocker, has an anterior cruciate ligament injury, sustained in a fall during UP’s match against Adamson University on Wednesday night.

She injured her left knee after an awkward landing from a spike attempt in the fourth set.

Despite the early exit, the third year middle blocker still managed to score 13 points for UP.

The league will take a two-week break before the second round, and Yee hopes other players would step up and fill the void, noting that Bersola’s absence would cost them an average of 12 points per game.

“We are practicing Chester (Ong) naman and Marian Buitre to be replacements na,” he said.

“Mahirap for us. Malas kung malas pero nandyan na e, we have to play on na agad so ganoon talaga,” Yee said.

The Lady Maroons in sixth spot with 3-4 win-loss record.
