Ateneo Lady Eagles beat UE Lady Warriors to stretch win streak to three

ATENEO copped its third straight win, beating University of the East, 25-14, 18-25, 25-13, 25-18, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Kat Tolentino had 22 points for the Lady Eagles, while Jhoana Maraguinot added 16, skipper Maddie Madayag chipped in 13 and Jules Samonte had 11.

The Lady Eagles scored their seventh win in 10 matches, behind idle league leader La Salle at 8-2.

“Well, I mean it's a really great achievement na mag-eight wins kasi we were just expecting to play our best naman,” said Madayag, whose team will face Adamson on Sunday.

“But then our goal was to reach talaga the Final Four. But nakakataas ng confidence, and nakakasaya for the team. And 'yung improvements din,” she added.

Ateneo recorded 13 kill blocks, five from Tolentino and three from Madayag. UE had nine service aces compared to four by the Lady Eagles. 

Shaya Adorador scored 21 for UE, while Mary Ann Mendrez added 10 and libero Kath Arado registered 30 digs and 16 excellent sets.

The Lady Warriors are at the bottom with a 2-8 win-loss record.
