FEU scores four-set win over NU to force rubber match for finals spot in UAAP volleyball

FAR Eastern University forced a rubber match for the a spot in the finals with a 22-25, 26-24, 28-26, 25-17 win over National University on Sunday in the stepladder semifinals of the UAAP Season 79 volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.

Game Two is on Wednesday, with the winner facing unbeaten top seed Ateneo, which is looking to bag its third consecutive title.

Jude Garcia scored 16 for FEU, skipper Richard Solis added 15 points, Greg Dolor chipped in 14 and Redijohn Paler had 10.

Tamaraws coach Rey Diaz thanked the players’ families for letting their sons stay at FEU during the Holy Week break.

“Maraming salamat sa mga magulang ng mga players natin dahil pinagkatiwala nila ang mga anak nila sa FEU,” said Diaz.

“Gusto ko may mapatunayan ’yung mga bata, na ’yung hindi nila pag-uwi, ito na sinusuklian na ng mga anak nila para sa mga magulang nila. Malaking sacrifice na imbis na nagbabakasyon sila,” he added.

Graduating FEU players Dolor, Paler and setter Ronchette Lee Villegas, who registered 44 of the team’s 53 excellent sets, will have a chance to leave their alma mater as champions.

Bryan Bagunas scored 13 points for NU, while James Natividad and Madzlan Gampong added 10 markers apiece.
