JRU downs Lyceum to secure at least a playoff for semis spot in NCAA women's volley

JOSE Rizal University disposed also-ran Lyceum, 25-13, 23-25, 25-11, 25-12, to secure at least a playoff berth in the semifinals of the NCAA Season 93 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Skipper Shola Alvarez led the way anew for the Lady Bombers with 23 points, from 16 kills, three blocks and four service aces, while Dolly Verzosa and and Karen Montojo added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Christine Miralles and Monica Sevilla made 11 markers apiece for Lyceum, while team captain Bien Juanillo chipped in 10.

JRU improved its record to 6-3, good for fourth place, and eliminated San Sebastian College (5-4) from of the semis race.

Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help (6-2) and College of St. Benilde (5-3) are in their own elims match and a win by the Lady Altas will complete the Final Four cast and join defending champion Arellano University (8-1) and San Beda College (8-1).

A win by the Lady Blazers will force a three-way tie at 6-3 and the team with the highest tie break will advance to the semis, while the two other teams will play in a rubber match.
