LA Salle recovered from a sluggish start, ending University of the Philippines’ win run at four with a 18-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-21 victory on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers scored their eighth win in 10 matches, rejoining idle Ateneo on top of the standings.

The Lady Maroons stayed in third but now hold a 6-4 win-loss record, just a game ahead of joint fourth placers Far Eastern University, National University and University of Sto. Tomas, all with 5-5 cards.

“Sabi ko naman sa inyo last time malaking factor ang pagiging bata ng team (UP)although nandoon ang talent pagdating ng ctucial medyo kakalas, kung ma-overcome nila ’yun mahirap silang talunin,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.

“Ang target namin basta daanan ’to, game against UP, kung kayang walang talo mas maganda, ’di ko muna inintindi standing kung nasaan kami,” he added.

Mika Reyes and Kim Dy scored 14 points, while Ara Galang added 12 for La Salle.

Reyes also had five of the team’s 10 service aces.

“Sabi ko lang ’di pwedeng magpatalo sa bawat skills na nangyayari sa court, organize blocking, ’yun lang ang sinabi ko,” said De Jesus.

Rookie Diana Carlos scored 14 points for UP.
