THE Ateneo Lady Eagles regained a share of the lead as expected even without Jhoana Maraguinot, scoring a quick 25-18, 25-12, 25-10 demolition of lowly UE Lady Warriors on Sunday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.

Kat Tolentino scored 12 for Ateneo, skipper Jia Morado had nine points and Michelle Morente added eight markers.

Ateneo recorded its 11th win in 13 matches, rejoining defending champion La Salle on top.

Seldom-used hitters Ponggay Gaston, Jules Samonte, Ana Gopico and Jamie Lavitoria combined for nine.

“Okay lang naman ipasok lahat kasi in training, we don't just stay with a solid core. Coach Tai (Bundit) makes it a point to use everyone in training para kahit sino ipasok sa game, prepared kami,” said Morado.

The Lady Eagles scored their second consecutive win to gain momentum ahead of their showdown with arch rival La Salle on Saturday.

Coach Tai Bundit dismissed claims Maraguinot is nursing an injury but she was not fielded in the match.

Mary Anne Mendrez scored six, while team captain Shaya Adorador added five points for UE, which dropped to 1-12.
