NATIONAL University scored its second straight victory under new head coach Roger Gorayeb as the Lady Bulldogs downed the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, on Sunday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Jaja Santiago came up with another huge game, scoring 26 points from 21 spikes and five solid blocks as NU scored its fourth win in seven outings for third place behind Ateneo and La Salle. Santiago’s score was just two points short of her total in the win over UST in their previous match.

Myla Pablo added 15 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

“Walong teams ’yan gustong pumasok sa top four ayaw ko naman sa below four doon tayo sa top four mas magandang target ’yun,” said Gorayeb.

Barely a week with his new team, the veteran mentor is happy to see his wards pick up what he wants them to do.

“Medyo nakuha na nila ’yung gusto kong gagawin pero konti pang tulak. May mga flaws pa rin dun pero ok lang, kumbaga sa 100 percent nasa 60 na kami for five days of practice,” he said.

Amanda Villanueva scored 14 points, while Mylene Paat and Jessica Galanza combined for 23 markers for Adamson, which holds a 3-4 win-loss slate for a share of fourth with Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines.

UAAP will have a week-long break during the Papal visit, with the second round schedule yet to be released.
