Jaja Santiago declines offer to play for Thailand volleyball club Bangkok Glass
Jaja Santiago had earlier been linked with a move to Turkish club Galatasaray before an offer from Bangkok Glass.

JAJA Santiago has declined an offer from Bangkok Glass to play in the Thailand Volleyball League.

National University star says she is focusing on studies and commitments to the Lady Bulldogs in the UAAP and Foton in the domestic commercial league Super Liga.

Santiago was offered US$4,000 per month for a six-month from October.

The UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament is set February until late April and the PSL Grand Prix from October to December.

“I wanted to finish my studies and I am already expecting (to finish) it this year. This is the only gift I will have na kahit sinuman hindi makukuha sakin. Second, I am a person that honor my commitments,” said Santiago on Saturday morning, the deadline she was given before Bangkok Glass will files its roster for the TVL.

“Yes for sure, my school NU and my club team Foton will support me in every decisions na gagawin ko, but for me, I made commitments ahead of time and I just can’t leave everyone hanging because of a sudden offer. I hope everyone will understands,” she added.

Thai national team manager Somchai Donpraiyod contacted the PSL president regarding Santiago’s availability.

“If I will think only about myself, definitely yes! I will grab the opportunity. It’s a big offer at the same time it’s a great opportunity for me as a Filipino athlete to represent our country in international leagues but, I have to prioritize things,” she said.

It wasn’t the first time that the 6-foot-5 do-it-all spiker has declined an opportunity to play abroad.

In 2013 she was also being eyed by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) but at 17, she did not want to be away from her family.
