UE coach Francis Vicente satisfied seeing Lady Warriors finally win a set -- for now
"On my side masaya ako pero kailangan pa naming manalo ng game hindi lang ng set," said coach Francis Vicente after the UE Lady Warriors finally won a set in Season 77 of the UAAP women's volleyball tournament.

FRANCIS Vicente remains winless as University of the East coach, but nonetheless is satisfied the Lady Warriors finally won a set in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

In his first year at the helm, the veteran mentor was somehow elated to finally see the team snapped a 26-set losing streak after the Lady Warriors won the third set in their match against Far Eastern University, 25-22, on Saturday.

“Overall may satisfaction. Instead na maging upset, yung mga hirap sa training nakikita mo na (sa game). Pero andoon pa rin yung inconsistencies. Kapag naging consistent kaya na (manalo),” said Vicente, whose post-game huddle inside the UE locker room took at least more than an hour.

“For me syempre on my side masaya ako pero kailangan pa naming manalo ng game hindi lang ng set,” he added.

UE’s luck though lasted for only a set and not for the entire game as the Lady Warriors lost to the Lady Tamaraws, 16-25, 17-25, 25-22, 18-25, that extended their skid for the season at nine and 40th overall dating back to 2012.

“Pero in fairness to them (players) my nakita na akong spark na kayang manalo,” Vicente stressed. “Kailangan lang ng leadership na andoon sa loob (ng court) meron kasi dapat nagdadala sa kanila sa loob.”

Aside from UE skipper Shaya Adorador, who usually top scores for the team, Vicente was surprised to see other players step up like Angelica Dacaymat, who finished with 13 markers next to Adorador’s team-high 14 points.

“’Yung mga unexpected na magdala, nagdala (gaya ni) Dacaymat, kahit ako na-shock,” he admitted.

Vicente sees a positive result from their practices and his way of coaching the team.

“May progress naman na,” he said. ‘”Yun ang importante, kada game mo may ups and dows pero may progress na nakukuha na nila ang style ko. Kanina nagtaray ako, naghagis na ako ng board pero pag upo tawa na ulit, kalma na.”

UE will have a shot at winning a game and not just a set eight days from now when it takes on Adamson.
