EIGHT teams from host country Philippines will see action in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour on May 3-6 at SM Sands by the Bay.

University of Santo Tomas top hitter Sisi Rondina will team up with Dzi Gervacio for the first time, while Charo Soriano and Bea Tan, Lourdilyn Catubag and Karen Quilario of Team Tagum PNP and the tandem of Jackie Estoquiao and DM Demontaño of Team Ilo-Ilo will compose the Philippine women’s team.

Meanwhile, Jade Becaldo and Calvin Sarte, who ruled the Beach Volleyball Republic, will lead the men’s team along with Kevin Juban and Raphy Abanto of Team UV, Ranran Abdilla and Edwin Tolentino of Team Air Force and KR Guzman and Henry Pecaña of Team Tigers.

“I’m looking forward to her intensity, she’s the cherry bomb,” said Gervacio of her partner. “Sa practice, she’s very good, there’s young blood that lifts the spirit of the team.”

A total of 28 teams - 12 in the men’s and 16 in the women’s division - from 23 participating countries will vie for the cash prize amounting to $10,000 and tourney points for qualification in the other FIVB beach volley events.

But PH bets do not want to put so much pressure on their shoulders as they go up against the world’s best beach volleyball players.

“We shouldn’t be playing with so much pressure,” said Gervacio.

“This is the world tour so in this tournament makikita namin kung nasaan kami and nasaang level (na ang Philippines) and para makita ang mga pagkukulang para maiangat pa ang level ng volleyball,” she added.
