PHILIPPINE sports is set to have its first blockbuster game of the year, and it's not in the PBA.

Judging from the long queues and huge throng that formed outside the Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, the first UAAP women's volleyball showdown between Ateneo and La Salle is certain to be a box-office smash.

Hours before the 4 p.m. match, long lines were seen outside the Pasay City arena snaking into the gates while large throngs gathered outside the main entrance looking for tickets that were hard to find.

"Waaw,' tweeted former Lady Eagles star Gretchen Ho at the sight of the large crowd outside the MOA Arena.

Crowd attendance was officially placed at 17,998.

Volleyball fans have every reason to get excited. The match is the first for the defending champions Lady Eagles and Lady Spikers since their classic finals showdown last year.

The two arch-rivals are also both unbeaten going to the game.
