The FEU Lady Tamaraws atoned for a five-set loss to La Salle at the weekend.

FAR Eastern University handed University of the East its 54th straight loss, pulling off an easy 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 victory in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

Bernadeth Pons poured in 19 points on 18 hits and one service ace for the Lady Tamaraws, who improved to 5-4 and moved inside the Magic Four that will make it to the playoffs.

The Morayta-based squad came out strong from the start to atone for a 14-25, 9-25, 25-22, 25-19, 7-15 loss to La Salle University at start the second round last Saturday.

FEU kept the Lady Warriors winless in nine games for the season and in 54 games overall dating back to Season 74.

With the Lady Tamaraws in control, FEU coach Shaq de los Santos was able to pull his starters and send in seldom used Carlota Hernandez, Maria Cayuna, Via Bal and Kyle Negrito.

The Lady Warriors took advantage and saved five match points, 21-24, but De los Santos sent Palma back in and the FEU star sealed the win with an attack from the middle.

“Kailangan ma-expose ang ibang reserve namin, alam namin na ’yun ang mangyayari, babawi ang UE, pero syempre kailangan ipa-feel sa mga bata paano maglaro so ’yun na ang chance,” said De los Santos.

“Yung tiwala namin sa mga bata, kung paano sila gagalaw, normal kasi na magrerelax tapos after that makakarecover na.  Kinakausap namin sila ng maayos kaya binibigyan namin sila ng time para mag-usap,” he added.

Shaya Adorador scored 11 points for UE.
