FAR Eastern University arranged a rematch against last year’s finals tormentor University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 80 beach volleyball tournament after cruising past University of the Philippines, 21-8, 21-18, on a rainy Friday afternoon at MOA Sands by the Bay.

But the Finals between UST and FEU, which was supposed to be played at 5:00 p.m., was postponed due to the downpour.

Game One of the best-of-three Finals will be on Saturday, 3:00 p.m.

Armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, FEU duo of Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza scorched hot early in the match despite the heavy rains to easily take the opening set against UP pair Diana Carlos and Ayel Estrañero.

Due to the inclement weather, however, the game was stopped when the Lady Tams were ahead, 18-16, but upon resumption, Pons and Atienza gave no chance to Carlos and Estrañero.

Meanwhile, in the men’s division, defending champion UST marched back into the Finals after KR Guzman and Anthony Arbasto asserted their mastery of FEU tandem Jude Garcia and Jeremiah Barrica, 21-17, 21-16, in the stepladder semifinals.

The uncle and nephew duo of Guzman and Arbasto, who defeated Garcia and Barrica in last year’s championship, will face National University on Saturday.
