FEU Lady Tamaraws down UP Lady Maroons to snap three-match skid and stay in hunt for semifinal spot

FAR Eastern University snapped a three-match skid to keep alive its bid for a semifinal berth, downing University of the Philippines, 25-19, 15-25, 25-19, 25-19, on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

FEU improved to a 5-8 win-loss record to forge a four-way tie for fourth spot with UP, Adamson and University of Santo Tomas. The four teams have one match left to play in the eliminations.

National University secured the third Final Four spot as the Lady Bulldogs downed Adamson, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-19.

Bernadeth Pons score 20 points, while twin towers Mary Palma and Geneveve Casugod combined for 29 markers for the Lady Tamaraws, who needed an hour and 41 minutes to take the match.

“Thank God sa wakas nanalo na rin,” said FEU coach Shaq de los Santos. “Pinakamaliit na butas ng karayom ang pinasok namin hopefully maka recover pa kami.”

“Very happy (ako) kasi lahat ng players (nagstep up) kasi skills andyan na man na ’yan eh hindi na kailangan i-practice,” he added. “Ang nawawala lang ’yung willingness na manalo.”

Angeli Araneta scored 14 points, while Marian Buitre added 12 for UP.
