FAR Eastern University routed also ran University of the East, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20, to secure at least a playoff for the twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Celine Domingo scored 16 points for FEU, skipper Bernadeth Pons had 13 points, 13 digs and 13 excellent receptions, while Jeanette Villareal also had 13 points.

FEU improved to 9-4, tied with Ateneo at the No. 2 spot, while three-peat seeking La Salle (11-2) has already locked the No. 1 spot in the semifinals against No. 4 National University (7-6).

A win by the Lady Tamaraws over the Lady Bulldogs on Sunday and a loss by the Lady Eagles to the Lady Spikers will hand the Morayta-based squad the twice-to-beat advantage.

“‘Yun ’yung talagang objective namin pero sabi ko nga sa kanila kanina one at a time lang, one step at a time lang so next plan is NU,” said FEU coach George Pascua.

“Sabi ko nga sa kanila pag mas maganda laro naming ’yung ine-aim namin na twice to beat possible na makukuha namin kumbaga gift na lang ‘yun kung talagang pagtatrabahuan,” he added.

FEU had 44 attacks against 25 by UE, and scored 14 service aces in the one-hour and 15-minute match.

Graduating spiker Shaya Adorador and Mary Ann Mendrez had 11 points apiece for UE, which dropped to 2-11.
