FAR Eastern University dealt University of Santo Tomas its fifth straight loss, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Skipper Bernadeth Pons had 15 points, while Toni Rose Basas added 10 for the Lady Tamaraws.

FEU, which defeated UST in straight sets in the first round, rose to third spot at 6-3 behind La Salle at 7-2 and National University at 6-2. Ateneo is running fourth with a 5-3 mark.

George Pascua and the Lady Tamaraws now brace for a tough match against the Lady Spikers on Sunday.

“Ang nire-ready lang namin, bukod sa mag-level up dapat, ‘yung mindset, yung decision making. Kasi ‘yung kalaban namin powerhouse. Kailangan namin mag-isip at maging wise kami every decision na gagawin ng players,” he said.

FEU capitalized on UST’s reception as it hit 19 service aces in the one-hour and 32-minute match.

“‘Yung receive ang tinarget namin. ‘Yun naman talaga ang observation namin, niremind ko sila na noong tinalo namin, ang dami naming service ace,” said Pascua.

“Nanalo kami dahil sa mga service namin hopefully ang service namin maging effective siya ulit sa mga upcoming games,” she added.

Sisi Rondina scored 11 points for UST, which slid to the bottom with a 2-7 record and are now on the brink of elimination.
