BERNADETH Pons is glad to have a break, but is also looking forward to returning to practice and prepare for the remaining elimination-round matches as Far Eastern University goes for a spot in the top two of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Tamaraws improved to 7-4 at the No. 3 spot, securing at least a playoff in the semifinals with a four-set win over University of the Philippines on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

FEU will have a four-day break starting on Good Friday and will return on Monday.

UAAP will have a break due to the Holy Week, while FEU gets back on the court on April 7 against Adamson University, followed by its match against University of the East on April April 11 and National University on April 15.

“Meron pa kaming three remaining games and kailangan namin maipanalo ’yun kasi gusto namin makuha ’yung pangalawang spot, first or second na spot para mas may advantage kami pagdating ng semis,” said Pons.

“Sisimulan pa rin namin sa training, pag-aaralan namin every team na makakalaban namin and kailangan tyagain and trabahuhin talaga namin every team na makakalaro namin,” she added.

FEU made it to the Final Four last year but fell short against top seeded Ateneo, and now the Lady Tamaraws would like to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis.

“Kasi noong mga past years palagi kami sa baba, ’yung kalaban namin hindi namin natatalo so hindi kami nakakaakyat,” said Pons.

As for the Holy Week break Pons won’t go home to Negros Occidental and will stay at the dorm instead.

“Church na lang kasi hindi naman ako makakauwi, sayang pamasahe ilang araw lang,” she said.
