NU Bulldogs overcome error-strewn performance to beat UP Maroons and stretch streak to five

FAUZI Ismail showed the way as National University defeated University of the Philippines, 26-24, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, on Sunday to stretch its win run to five in the UAAP Season 79 volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Ismail had 21 points, with 19 attacks, while Bryan Bagunas and James Natividad had 12 markers apiece for the Bulldogs, who tightened their grip on second spot with a 6-1 win-loss record behind unbeaten two-time defending campion Ateneo (7-0).

“Medyo ito ang pinakapangit na performance namin sa first round kasi hindi namin nabawasan ’yung mga unforced errors,” said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin, who wards gave away 34 points to UP courtesy of their errors. 

“Nandyan ang service error namin at attack errors namin, sana sa susunod naming game ay mabawasan na talaga namin,” he added.

John Mark Millete scored 20 points, while Alfred Valbuena added nine for UP. Skipper Wendel Miguel is out for at least two weeks due to a dislocated shoulder.
