DENDEN Lazaro is hoping the preparations of the Philippine women’s volleyball team would bear fruit this time as it tries to rise from fifth in the Southeast Asian Games two years ago.

A member of the team the Singapore SEA Games, Lazaro feels the nationals are on track for a solid showing in Kuala Lumpur in August.

"We know where we are, that's important. We are starting from square one and I think na there's no shame in that," said the national team libero.

"Kasi the other teams like Thailand, they started somewhere. They didn't start from the top, they started from the bottom so I think we just need patience and understanding from everyone and syempre ang support and cooperation," she added.

It will be a tough battle for the national team in the Kuala Lumpur SEAG set August 17 to 31, the Filipinas having been bracketed in Pool B with Vietnam and Malaysia for the preliminaries.

Before that, the Filipina volleybelles see action in the Asian Women's Seniors Championship on August 9 to 17 that the country is hosting, and they have been grouped with Hong Kong and Kazakhstan.

The team composed of Lazaro, skipper Mika Reyes, Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Aby Maraño, Kim Fajardo, Maika Ortiz, Rhea Dimaculangan, Gen Casugod, Ces Molina, Kim Dy, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Dawn Macandili will leave to Japan on Monday for a 17-day training camp.

"Time is a luxury so buti ngayon napaghandaan na ng maaga ang lineup and 'yung program namin and I think magiging fruitful naman 'yung hardwork na binigay nila Sir Peter (LVPI vice president), Sir Tats (Suzara PSL president), ng coaching staff and syempre ng players so sana it will bear fruit in the future," said Lazaro.

"Sana makita na natin ang fruits of our labor sa tournaments this 2017 pero I think mabuti nang maaga pa lang we're setting programs na in the future," she added.
