DE La Salle blew a two-set lead but got its act together in time to beat Far Eastern University, 25-14, 25-9, 23-25,19-25, 15-7, in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Taft-based squad relied on Cyd Demecillo and Ara Galang to pull away in the final set and atone for a shock straight-sets loss to University of Santo Tomas in midweek, improving to 6-2 (win-loss) overall.

The Lady Spikers pulled away to an 8-2 lead in the last set and never looked back, denying an audacious FEU side that came back to life after losing the first two sets.

“Actually nag-work rin talaga ‘yung FEU kasi ‘yung first two sets medyo hindi sila naka-receive eh, medyo nasira ang defense nila kasi most of the time nasa amin ang attacks,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.

“Tapos sa third and fourth nag-dominate naman kami sa attacks at the same time hindi kami makapasa, nagkapalitan ng momentum ayun nagtuluy-tuloy,” he added.

Kim Dy topscored for La Salle with 14 points even if she was benched in the fifth set while Ara Galang, Mary Joy Baron and Demecillo each had 13, 13 and 12 markers, respectively.

Bernadeth Pons’ 23 points went down the drain as FEU dropped to 4-4 in a tie with University of Santo Tomas for fourth spot.

Toni Basas and Marie Cayuna added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Lady Tamaraws.
