THE change in schedule worked to National University’s advantage as the Bulldogs carry the momentum of a hard-fought semifinal series against an Ateneo team facing a longer lay-off before the best-of-three Finals of the UAAP Season 79 men’s volleyball tournament.

NU nearly squandered a twice-to-beat edge after Far Eastern University dragged the Bulldogs to a sudden death. But the former two-time champion pulled off a come-from-behind, 23-25, 25-20, 15-25, 25-21, 15-12, win on Wednesday to arrange its fourth Finals showdown with Ateneo.

Blessed with the win, the Bulldogs welcomed another blessing in disguise with the finals set for April 29 rescheduled to May 2 due to the Asean summit, as they get three more days to rest and prepare for the unbeaten but rusty Blue Eagles.

“Mas maganda kasi sabi ko nga noong una, kung anong ibigay sa atin (tanggapin natin) pero mas maganda kung humaba kasi maghihintay sila tapos kami nagpupukpukan ng FEU,” said Alinsunurin.

Ateneo, which swept the elimination round, earned an automatic Finals berth and is on its 18th day without a competitive game.

“Kasi kapag player ka talaga, kapag na-feel mo ang laro na tuluy-tuloy, pag natigil ka medyo kakalawangin ka,” he said.

“Or mag-iisip ka ng mga bagay na negative or positive na makakaapekto sa performance niyo sa team niyo,” he added.

It will be the fourth time that NU and Ateneo will face in the Finals with the Blue Eagles having a 2-1 edge.
