Hard-luck La Salle spikers not giving up the fight, says defiant Cyd Demecillo

LA Salle’s Cyd Demecillo said the Lady Spikers are not giving up the fight despite a series of unfortunate injuries that left them backed against the wall in the UAAP women's volleyball finals against rival Ateneo.

Demecillo topscored for the Lady Spikers with 10 points on Wednesday afternoon in Game One, which Alyssa Valdez-led Ateneo won in straight sets to move within a victory of a title repeat.

Worse, the Lady Spikers saw veteran Camille Cruz go down with an ACL injury - the third of her career - in the series opener, joining leading scorer Ara Galang in a growing injury list.

Still, Demecillo said the Lady Spikers are unbowed.

“May pag-asa pa. Do or die na ‘yan eh,” said Demecillo. “Kailangan double effort pa sa training para sa Sabado (for Game Two), ready kami kahit anong mangyari.”

Demecillo said the team is taking a 'nothing to lose' mentality to the next game as it deals with the adversity.

“Paghuhugutan na lang namin ‘yung mga nangyari. Sobrang tagal ng season na ‘to, ngayon pa ba kami bibitaw. Kailangan all-out na. Wala kaming aasahan kundi sarili namin,” Demecillo said.

“Bilog ang bola. Wala kaming dapat ikatakot. Nothing to lose,” she added.
