UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas got back on the winning track and sent Adamson to a third straight loss, 25-21, 17-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-12, Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tigresses looked headed for back-to-back defeats but recovered in the fourth and squeaked out a win after an error-filled fifth set. It was a huge relief for coach Kungfu Reyes and his wards, who were coming off a straight-sets loss to La Salle.

UST evened its win-loss record 5-5 and gained a share of fourth with idle Far Eastern University and National University.

The Lady Falcons suffered their seventh loss in 10 outings and the second straight under coach Domeng Custodio, who took over last week when Sherwin Meneses resigned.

The Tigresses also got back at the Lady Falcons, who won their first-round match, also a five-set thriller.

Skipper EJ Laure scored 21 points on 15 spikes, three blocks and three service aces, while Cherry Rondina also had 21 points from 19 attacks and two blocks.

Laure also had 14 excellent receptions, while Rondina registered 11 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

Jessey de Leon also added 11 markers for the Tigresses.

“Very important itong game na ito. Ang importante even na kami ng standing 5-5. Ito na ang magiging turning poing para sa pang-apat na puwesto na tinatarget namin,” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes, adding that he was not very pleased with the Tigresses’ performance.

UST took a 7-4 lead in the fifth but Adamson trimmed the gap, 12-13, before the Tigresses woke up.
