CAGAYAN Valley moved up to joint second as it turned back Cignal, 25-14, 18-25, 27-25, 25-23, on Wednesday in the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix at Ynares Sports Arena.
Thai reinforcements Wanida Kotruang and Patcharee Saengmuang carried the Lady Rising Suns as they finished with 21 and 17 points, respectively, while Pau Soriano provided 11 markers.
Angge Tabaquero was back after missing four games due to shoulder and knee injuries.
The Rising Suns captain was sent in as a substitute and was not able to contribute points, but Cagayan coach Nes Pamilar said the team leader’s presence on the court was enough.
"Mas may kumpyansa 'yung mga kasama niya pag andyan si Angge, may leader sa loob," said Pamilar.
The Lady Rising Suns now hold a 3-1 record and are now tied for second place with TMS Philippine Army.
From a 21-24 contest in the fourth set, the HD Spikers came up with three straight points to inch closer, 23-24.
But Li Zhangzhan failed to cross the ball over, giving Cagayan Valley the win.
Zhangzhan came up with 16 points, while fellow Chinese import Lei Xie added 13 and Abigail Praca chipped in 12 for Cignal.
The HD Spikers are in third spot with a 2-2 win-loss card.
