Bernadeth Pons might miss rest of PVL Collegiate Conference to focus on UAAP beach volley stint
FEU might be without top hitter Bernadeth Pons for the remainder of the PVL Collegiate Conference

FAR Eastern University top hitter Bernadeth Pons might miss the remainder of the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference.

The FEU star is currently in Singapore for the Southeast Asian Beach Volleyball Championships and will likely to sit out for the next games due to the UAAP Season 80 beach volleyball tournament, which starts on October 6.

“Next Monday pa ang balik (ni Pons). Sa UAAP beach volleyball lang muna (siya lalaro) kasi medyo galing sa tournament para ang focus niya doon na lang muna (sa UAAP),” said FEU coach George Pascua.

“Nag-usap kami ng (FEU) management na focus muna sa beach volleyball kasi UAAP ‘yun eh. Kumbaga pre-season lang naman to (PVL) eh,” he added.

Despite the absence of Pons, FEU defeated Jose Rizal University, 28-26, 25-14, 25-15, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Tamaraws outscored the Lady Bombers in attacks (41-18) in a match that took an hour and 17 minutes.

Although FEU was in danger in the opening set, Pascua is confident that the team can manage.

“Mayroon namang pamalit sa kanya,” he said.

Toni Rose Basas stepped up with 15 points, while Heather Guino-o, who was tasked to fill in the void left by Pons, added six markers.
