ATENEO defeated Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17, to start the second round of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Jhoana Maraguinot had 15 points, while Kat Tolentino added 11 for the Lady Eagles, who bounced back from a four-set loss to titleholder La Salle and halted FEU’s four-match winning run.

The Lady Eagles improved to 5-3, tied for third with the Lady Tamaraws.

“Well nakakataas talaga ng confidence sa team namin, sobrang nag-pay off naman ang training namin, tsaka pinakita namin kung paano talaga kami maglaro,” said Ateneo team captain Maddie Madayag, adding that it was a surprising result against an FEU team that finished at No. 2 in the first round.

“We were really preparing for FEU talaga,” she said. “So nakaka-sarap sa feeling.”

Toni Rose Basas led the way for FEUwith 10 points, while Bernadeth Pons was limited to five points.
