Ateneo Lady Eagles repeat over Malaysia to clinch bronze medal in Asean University Games
The Ateneo Lady Eagles, who suffered back-to-back losses to powerhouse squads, finish with a flourish and claim the last spot on the podium.

ATENEO bagged the bronze medal in the Asean University Games as the Lady Eagles clobbered Malaysia, 25-11, 25-11, 25-16, on Sunday in Palembang, Indonesia.

Alyssa Valdez powered Ateneo with 16 points and Ella de Jesus added 14.

It was a fine finish for the Lady Eagles, who downed Singapore, 25-12, 25-9, 25-11, to secure a spot in the battle for third.

The reigning UAAP champions started the tournament on a winning note, downing Malaysian before suffering back-to-back losses to Indonesia and powerhouse Thailand.

“We are very happy for this bronze medal finish, especially, for an inexperienced team like the Lady Eagles,” said team manager Tony Boy Liao.

“It’s their first time to play outside the country and represent the Philippines. I feel very proud of this team,” said Liao. “We offer and share our victory to the one Philippine Volleyball.”
