ATENEO star Alyssa Valdez had a successful return in the sands as she teamed up with Bea Tan for a rousing 21-9, 21-19 win over University of the Philippines in the UAAP women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Sands by the Bay on Friday.

It was the first time Valdez played beach volleyball in three years, and though she initially had a hard time adjusting, her partnership with Tan still proved too much against the pair of Vila Alinas Arielle Estranero.

“Napaka-init, nakakapanibago kumpara sa indoor volleyball,” said the 22-year old back-to-back UAAP Most Valuable Player (indoor).

“We are lucky we had a good game today, pero actually marami pa rin kaming errors,” she added.

Meanwhile, UP tries to bounce back from the loss when it faces La Salle later in the day shortly after the match between University of Santo Tomas and National University.
