ATENEO preserved its unblemished record and got a big boost ahead of its international stint with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 demolition of University of Santo Tomas on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Alyssa Valdez scored 22 points from 19 spikes and three service aces as the Lady Eagles scored their fourth win in as many matches and kept a share of the lead with La Salle.

Pint-sized Ella de Jesus scored 12 for the Lady Eagles, who needed only an hour and 18 minutes to stop the struggling Tigresses.

“We’re really happy na maganda ang result ng games namin and we’re happy na naka 4-0 kami, Christmas gift, yehey,” said Valdez.

“Every team pinaghahandaan namin, pinag-aaralan ni coach Tai (Bundit) and we’re expecting talaga na lalabaan lagi ’yung teams and kasi nagte-training rin naman sila for us,” said Valdez.

It was a big win for the Lady Eagles, who are leaving for in Indonesia on Sunday to see action in the Asean University Games.

Valdez, though, has modest expectations in the international competition, saying a single win would be huge.

“Kung manalo kami kahit isang game doon mas maganda. We’re not expecting anything naman form there siguro just get the experience na pwede naming makuha and as much as possible matuto kami from there and madala namin dito sa UAAP.”

Ateneo hit seven service aces while UST was zero from the service line.

Jessey de Leon scored eight points, sophomore Ria Meneses added seven and rookie EJ Laure had six for UST, which absorbed its third straight loss after winning its season-opener.
