ATENEO star Denden Lazaro is on course to duplicate what her boyfriend LA Revilla did with La Salle a few years ago — win a UAAP title to cap their collegiate athletic career.

The popular libero is looking to put a fitting end to her career with the Lady Eagles when the top seeds play an injury-hit De La Salle side in Game Two of the Season 77 women’s volleyball finals on Saturday.

With one more win by the unbeaten and thrice-to-beat Lady Eagles, Lazaro can emulate the feat Revilla pulled off back in 2013 when led the De La Salle Green Archers to the UAAP Season 76 crown at the end of his collegiate career.

“Every time naman, it’s different. Every year, iba ‘yung nangyayari. (But) it’s special now that we are graduating and may chance na mag-back-to-back,” said Lazaro after Ateneo's victory in Game One.

Lazaro, however, can put one over his boyfriend since she is on track to win a second championship with Ateneo. Revilla's 2013 UAAP title was his only one with the Green Archers.

Revilla now plays for KIA Motors in the PBA.

At this point, Lazaro said he is more focused on winning the title but at the same time recognized the fact that the road to the finals was made even more special knowing she is playing out her final year with the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Eagles are certainly on track.

Ateneo team manager Tonyboy Liao said head coach Tai Bundit has always made the team believe that they can accomplish anything — even a perfect 16-0 record to finish the season — if they want to.

“Lagi kasing sinasabi ni coach Tai na if they believe that they can do it, they can do it. Kung sila Alyssa (Valdez), Denden, and the rest of the team ay may paniwala na kaya nila, kaya na nilang tapusin sa Sabado,” said Liao.

After her stint with the Lady Eagles, Lazaro is set to play for Foton in the Philippine Super Liga after being drafted in the second round by the team on Thursday.
