ARELLANO University beat NCAA rival San Beda College, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18, in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Regine Arocha scored 16 points as the Lady Chiefs, the NCAA women’s volleyball champions, took the solo lead in Group B with a 2-0 win-loss card.

Skipper Jovielyn Prado added 13 points and Mary Anne Esguerra chipped in 10 for AU, which needed an hour and 16 minutes to beat the Lady Red Spikers and exact revenge for a loss at another preseason league last month.

“Napaghandaan lang talaga namin ‘yung game sa Beda ngayon. Kasi nung nakaraan na naglaro kami sa Founder's Cup kami ’yung na-straight set nila,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier.

“Inaral lang namin ’yung game namin doon tapos ’yun ang resulta,” he added. “‘Yung talo na ’yun sa Founder's Cup naging motivation namin na matalo ‘yung Beda ngayon.”

Arellano rose from a 6-8 deficit in the third set to take a 21-15 lead and held on.

“Ang sakit kasi ng Arellano talaga ever since na pag nakakuha kami ng dalawang sets, ’yung third talagang hirap na hirap kaming makauna talaga,” said Javier.

“Laging ito ’yung crucial step dapat maungusan namin ‘to,” he added.

Nieza Viray scored 13 points for San Beda, which dropped to 1-1.
