Volleyball star Alyssa Valdez is rooting for LeBron and the Cavs. Find out why
Alyssa Valdez is a diehard Cavs fan for one simple reason - No. 23.

THE star player that she is, Alyssa Valdez is also a fan at heart.

And the face of the Philippine women’s volleyball team to the 28th Southeast Asian Games is letting everybody know who she is rooting for in the ongoing NBA Finals.

Even before top seed Golden State sealed a best-of-seven series showdown against Cleveland, the 21-year-old Ateneo stalwart has already been vocal in cheering for Lebron James and the Cavs.

“Cavs for the win,” the young national player shouted while dining one fine evening in a posh restaurant somewhere in Ortigas, where a replay of one game in the Western Conference Finals between the Warriors and the Houston Rockets was being shown on the big screen.

Valdez is a diehard Cavs fan for one simple reason - No. 23.

The pride of San Juan, Batangas said the four-time MVP is the kind of player you’ll love to have for a teammate and hate when he’s playing for the opposing team.

“Kasi 'di ba ang daming galit sa kanya? Eh magaling naman talaga siya at saka part of the game naman 'yun,” said Valdez.

But the charming volleybelle doesn’t want to make any predictions on how far the Finals will go, which the Cavaliers just tied at 1-1 Sunday night (Monday, Manila time) following a thrilling 95-93 overtime in Game Two at the Oracle Arena in Golden State.

James finished with a triple-double of 39 points, 16 rebounds, and 11 assists in the Cavs’ first ever win in the Finals. The series shifts to Cleveland for Games Three and Four.

“Hindi natin masasabi kasi magaling din `yung kabila,” said Valdez. “Basta, Go Cavs! Go Lebron!”
