WITH third place as just the farthest that her team can go, Alyssa Valdez is taking the Premier Volleyball League stint with new team Creamline as another learning experience.

Valdez hasn’t won a title since UAAP Season 77 and the run continues as the Cool Smashers try to salvage third place the Reinforced Conference.

“It’s always a challenge for me to be on top as an individual player. Pero as a team, it’s really a struggle. Most of the time nakakapasok sa semis sa finals pero hindi rin namin nakukuha yung team,” said Valdez who finished with 21 points in Creamline’s three-set win over the Power Smashers.

“It’s one way of looking at it, na kailangan ko pa mag-improve at marami pa akong kailangan matutunan. Magandang reminder yung mga ganito, to look back sa mga basics na tinuturo ng mga coaches,” she added.

That’s why in games like this, Valdez isn’t lacking in any motivation.

With Kuttika Kaewpin and Laura Schaudt set to leave in a few days, the former Ateneo star is bent on making sure the imports’ efforts don’t go to waste.

“Nung nakita naming nung semifinals they really wanted to win. Yun ang kinuhaan naming ng inspiraton. More than contributing to the team, gusto naming tulungan yung imports namin talaga. Para maipakita nila kung ano talaga yung kaya nila,” she said.

“It was really a rough journey but it was really worth it cause magkakasama kami.”

Valdez also knows the importance of getting a silverware especially for the confidence of a young team like Creamline.

“Ending it with an award, getting a medal is really different. It’s gonna be an inspiration sa lahat ng maglalaro sa All Filipino na kaya naming pag magkakasama kami. It’s really gonna be a confidence booster, as a new team kailangan din naming yun para tumibay kami as a team.”
