Ateneo Lady Eagles tighten grip on UAAP lead with rout of UP Lady Maroons

ATENEO tightened its grip on the lead, clobbering University of the Philippines, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Eagles are unbeaten in four matches this season, extended their winning run to 22 dating back to the Finals of Season 76.

Alyssa Valdez and sophomore Bea de Leon led the Lady Eagles with 13 points apiece, while second -year middle blocker Maddie Madayag added 10.

The rookie-laden UP side showed flashed of brilliance and the match lasted an hour and 17 minutes, but Valdez actually felt great getting a tough challenge from the young Lady Maroons.

“Ang tatapang ng mga bata sa UP, lalaban at lalaban lang din talaga,” said the 22-year old Valdez.

 “It’s just the first round so mahaba pa ang season natin most definitely madami pang mag-iimprove and hopefully ’yung team namin mag-improve din,” she added.

Rookie Diana Carlos led the Lady Maroons with 16 points on 13 spikes and three blocks.

The Lady Maroons dropped to 1-2 for a three-way tie for fourth spot with Adamson and Far Eastern University.
