Air Force completes sweep of Cignal in Spikers Turf finals for second title of season

PHILIPPINE Air Force dethroned Cignal, competing a sweep of the Spikers Turf finals with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22 victory on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

National University star Bryan Bagunas scored 27 points for the Jet Spikers in the second match of the best-of-three series.

Air Force also bagged back-to-back titles following the Open Conference championship, also at the expense of the HD Spikers.

“Sabi ko nga sa kanila kapag nag-champion tayo rito maganda ang ating Pasko at Bagong Taon,” said Air Force coach Rhovyl Verayo.

“Malaking bagay ito sa amin kasi dalawang sunod na sweep na itong championship na ito sa amin against Cignal eh. At least gumana ang plays na pinaghirapan namin sa loon ng ilang buwan na training,” he added.

Mark Gil Alfafara scored 21 points to lead Air Force.

Ysay Marasigan scored 18 for Cignal, Lorenzo Capate had 13 points and Edmar Bonono added 11.

Champion Supra took third place, beating Instituto Estetico Manila, 27-25, 26-28, 25-15, 23-25, 16-11, to sweep the best-of-three series.

Joven Camaganakan scored 21, Arjay Onia had 20 points, while Ace Mandani added 12.

JP Torres scored 25 points for the Phoenix Volley Masters, who dropped the series opener in four sets.
