AIR Force breezed past defending champion Pocari Sweat, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21, to inch closer to the Finals of the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.

May Ann Pantino finished with 12 points for Air Force, while Jocemer Tapic added 11.

The Lady Jet Spikers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three semifinals and can close out the series on Sunday.

“Siguro naging agresibo silang lahat, gusto nila manalo, ang desire to win nila lumabas and gusto talaga namin makabawi sa kanila,” said Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez.

Dell Palomata also had nine points, while Iari Yongco chipped in eight, and skipper Joy Cases contributed six for the Lady Jet Spikers, who scored a total of 41 attack points compared to the Lady Warriors' 28 in a match that took an hour and 11 minutes to finish.

Although Game Two is less than 24 hours away, Jimenez said that they will still have a 6:00 a.m. practice to prepare for Pocari Sweat.

“Kahit na may laro kami nagpa-practice kami, 'yun ang routine at preparation namin,” he said. “Hindi na hard training, may kasamang stretching at usap-usap.”

Myla Pablo was the lone bright spot for Pocari Sweat with 14 points.
