ADAMSON University overcame a sluggish start to beat Far Eastern University, 21-25, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-10, on Wednesday and snap a four-match skid in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Sophomore spiker May Roque set a career high with 23 points on 19 attacks, one block and three service aces for the Lady Falcons, who are in seventh place with a 2-4 record.

“Start pa lang ng UAAP sabi ko watch out kay Roque. Maganda talaga ang nilaro ni Roque both offense and defense,” said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses.

Jessica Galanza added 16 points and Bernadette Flora chipped in 12 for Adamson, which last won on February 3 in a five-setter against University of Santo Tomas.

The Lady Falcons are favored to get a win run going when they take on bottom team University of the East on Saturday.

“Importante ’yung pagkapanalo namin kasi magkakadikit-dikit na ang standing sana sa Sabado makuha ulit namin ang panalo,”said Meneses.

The Lady Falcons used a 7-0 run for a 10-2 lead in the fifth set.

FEU countered with a 3-0 spurt, with Mary Palma scoring on a hit and Galanza committing back-to-back errors, 7-13. But Galanza recovered to push the Lady Falcons to match point, 14-7.

“’Yun ang nagiging problema namin kahit sa previous games namin medyo slow ang start namin pero ‘yung mga napag-usapan nga namin, maglaro lang nang maglaro ng tama makakabawi rin,” said Meneses.

Bernadeth Pons scored 25 points, Toni Basas added 20 and skipper Remy Palma contributed 11 for the Lady Tamaraws, who dropped to 3-3 for fourth spot.

FEU gave away 41 points to Adamson through errors.
