CHA Cruz and seven other volley stars bring the action from the hardwood under the lights to the powdery sand under the scorching sun in the Nestea Beach Volleyball Fantasy Match in Boracay this weekend.
A former beach volleyball competitor in the UAAP, Cruz has recently been concentrating on her stints indoor with Shopinas.com in the Philippine Super Liga and Meralco in the V-League, and is now looking forward to some relaxing time on the beach on in the event set May 1 and 2.
“Makakapagpahinga in a way kasi may beach pero ang daming tao,” Cruz told Spin.ph. “After ng game magpapahinga at e-enjoy-in ang beach,” she added.
Cruz sees action with former Ateneo star Gretchen Ho, Philips Gold's Michele Gumabao, UAAP Finals MVP Amy Ahomiro of Ateneo, Petron spiker Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Army mainstay Rachel Anne Daquis, Cignal HD’s Carmela Tunay and UST Tigress Tricia Santos in the special event to be held in front of Boracay Beach Chalets.
The composition of the teams will be determined by votes on social media.
Top schools are also battling for honors in the Nestea Beach Volleyball for the 17th year in a row, with Cyd Demecillo and Kim Fajardo looking to keep the title at La Salle. Fajardo last year won the title with Ara Galang, who is out due to knee injuries sustained in the UAAP indoor volleyball tournament.
Looking toppe the DLSU Lady Spikers are Adamson, University of Santo Tomas, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, University of Perpetual Help-Laguna, University of Negros-Recoletos, Southwestern University, University of Mindanao-Davao, Mindanao State University-Tagum and Mindanao State University- Tawi-Tawi.
In the men’s division, University of Southern Philippines Foundation goes for back-to-back titles against a field featuring last year’s runner-up, National University, College of St. Benilde, Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, SWU, University of Mindanao-Davao, Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi, Holy Cross of Davao College, University of the Visayas.
