NECOLE Ebuen is eager to prove she deserves the MVP title, hoping to lead the way as Arellano tries to complete the comeback in the NCAA women’s volleyball finals.
Arellano’s leading scorer ended up with only seven points in the opening match of the best-of-three series against Perpetual Help, then was handed the MVP and Best Opposite Spiker awards hours before the second match on Friday.
“Iniisip ko po noong tinanggap ko ang award na 'yun, sinabi ko sa sarili ko na ipapakita ko pa po ang best ko,” said Ebuen, scoring 18 points, all coming from kills, and making 18 digs in the five-set win that evened the series.
“Kasi maraming nagsasabi na hindi ko po deserve yung award na yun,” said an emotional Ebuen, although she refused to mention who tried to downplay her awards.
“Pero sabi ko papatunayan ko sa inyo na deserve ko itong award na ‘to,” said Ebuen, who transferred from Letran to Arellano two years ago.
Ebuen hurt her right ankle when she accidentally landed on the foot of Perpetual Help’s Bianca Tripoli in the fifth set, but said she will be fine as the Lady Chiefs and Lady Altas clash one last time on Tuesday for the title.
