LAST year’s top rookies Necole Ebuen of Arellano Lady Chiefs and Joebert Almodiel of Perpetual Help Altas were crowned as NCAA Season 94 Most Valuable Players in women’s and men’s division.
Ebuen, who made her debut last season and won the Rookie of the Year, bagged her first MVP plum and also earned the Best Opposite Spiker award after emerging as the Lady Chiefs’ leading scorer this season.
Ebuen became was the first MVP from Arellano since CJ Rosario won the plum last Season 90.
But the reigning MVP, who was limited to just seven points in their Finals Game 1 loss to Perpetual Help in four sets, is stil on a mission of redeeming themselves in Game 2 against 1st Best Outside Spiker Cindy Imbo and the Lady Altas and trying to force a do-or-die Game 3 on Tuesday next week.
Last year’s rookie MVP Almodiel won his second MVP award and the 1st Best Outside plum.
It was a double celebration for Almodiel and fellow awardee and teammate Ronniel Rosales, who was named as 1st Best Middle Blocker, as Perpetual completed a sweep of College of Saint Benilde and the season for a golden repeat.
The Blazers had three individual awardees with Rookie of the Year Vince Abrot, 2nd Best Middle Blocker Francis Basilan and Best Setter Kevin Magsino.
San Beda, which lost to Arellano in the Final Four, had three awardees un the women’s division with Cesca Racraquin winning the 2nd Best Outside Spiker, her sister Daryl Racraquin bringing home the Best Libero, while Lynne Matias was named as Best Setter and Rookie of the Year. College of Saint Benilde’s graduating player Rachel Austero and Lyceum’s Bien Juanillo were the 1st and 2nd Best Middle Blockers of the Season.
The other men’s awardees were: Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Joshua Mina (2nd Best Outside Spiker); Arellano’s Jesrael Liberato (Best Opposite Spiker) and EAC’s Earl Joshua Magadan (Best Libero)
Letran Squires star Christian Dela Cruz, meanwhile, won the Season 94 Juniors MVP despite getting swept by ‘five-peat’ champions Perpetual Help Junior Altas in Game2, 25-19, 30-28, 25-17.
Dela Cruz also won the 1st Best Outside Spiker, while his rival Noel Kampton of Perpetual Help was named as 2nd Best Outside Spiker.
Graduating Junior Altas star Hero Austria was crowned as Finals MVP, while Perpetual Help head coach Sandy Rieta was the coach of the year in Juniors division.
The other Juniors’ awardees were Lyceum’s Yoj Pabiton (1st Best Middle Blocker); Perpetual Help’s Kirth Patrick Rosos (2nd Best Middle Blocker; Lyceum’s Sean Escallar (Best Setter); Letran’s John Paulo Lorenzo (Best Opposite Spiker, while San Beda had two individual awardees despite the winless season with Eljie Jaballa and Lance De Castro winning the Rookie of the Year and Best Libero, respectively.
