    San Sebastian, St. Benilde begin battle for NCAA women's volleyball crown

    WELL-rested San Sebastian resumes its drive to the title as it battles St. Benilde on Tuesday in the opener of the NCAA women’s volleyball finals on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.

    The San Sebastian belles completed a sweep of the eliminations over a week ago to claim an outright spot in the finals and now look to take one step closer to the title.

    The Gretcel Soltones-led squad have a thrice-to-beat advantage, meaning they need only two wins to claim the title.

    "Our main focus now is Game One, nothing else," said Gorayeb.

    St. Benilde, meanwhile,

    The Lady Blazers survived the grueling stepladder semis with wins over Perpetual Help and last year's champion Arellano University.

    San Sebastian and St. Benilde begin battle at 4 p.m.

    The San Sebastian belles have won 24 NCAA titles, 22 under coach Roger Gorayeb, while the Lady Blazers are eyeing their first ever crown.

    It is the third time San Sebastian and St. Benilde are playing in the finals. San Sebastian won in two matches in 2008 and scored a 2-1 series win in 2009.

    In men's play, Emilio Aguinaldo College shoots for its second straight title as it faces off with Perpetual Help at 2 p.m.

    The Generals are eyeing their second straight crown while the Altas shoot for their 11th crown, all under their Sammy Acaylar.

    The men's and women's finals will be shown live by ABS-CBN Sports and Action Channel 23.

    Perpetual Help battles EAC in the juniors finals at 12 p.m.
