ST. BENILDE recovered from a sluggish start and downed San Beda, 24-26, 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-10, on Monday to grab a share of second spot in the 91st NCAA women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Jeanette Panaga led all hitters with 21 hits, 12 on kills, six on blocks and three on service aces as the Blazers matched Arellano’s 4-1 win-loss card, a game behind San Sebastian (5-0).
Janine Navarro scored 19 points and Ranya Musa added 17 for the Lady Blazers.
"The girls showed character," said St. Benilde coach Michael Carino.
In men's play, the Blazers downed the Lions, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, to likewise boost their stock.
San Beda avoided a sweep as its juniors team routed St. Benilde, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23.
