St. Benilde tighens grip on place in top four with win over San Sebastian

COLLEGE of St. Benilde turned back San Sebastian, 25-18, 25-23, 25-20, in a battle of Final Four contenders on Tuesday in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Skipper Jeanette Panaga scored 17 points, while Jannine Navarro and Ranya Musa each had 12 as the Lady Blazers scored their sixth win in eight matches to stay firmly in fourth spot.

Gretchel Soltones had 11 points for San Sebastian, which dropped to third spot at 7-2.

League-leading Arellano is unbeaten in eight matches, while Perpetual Help is in second spot at 7-1.

Emilio Aguinaldo College downed Mapua, 25-15, 25-15, 25-18, for its fourth win in nine matches.

Yvonne Reyes scored 16 points, including seven of EAC’s 12 service aces.

Jela Pena and Audrey Paran made 16 and 10 markers, respectively, for Mapua, which absorbed its fifth straight loss and seventh in eight outings.
