Perpetual Help gains third spot in NCAA volley with victory over erstwhile unbeaten St. Benilde

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help put an end to College of St. Benilde’s four-match winning run, 25-20, 30-28, 25-23, on Monday and moved to third spot in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

Lourdes Clemente, a 6-foot-2 recruit from Bulacan, scored 11 points, while skipper Jamela Suyat also had 11 for the Lady Altas.

Jowie Albert Verzosa came off the bench to score eight and Coleen Bravo chipped in with seven for Perpetual Help, which notched its fifth win in six matches.

Jannine Navarro had 14 points and team captain Jeanette Panaga added 11 for the Lady Blazers, who dropped to fourth spot with a 4-1 win-loss card.

San Sebastian is on top with a 6-0 record followed by Arellano at 5-0.

Meanwhile, Lyceum finally won after four losses as it edged winless Letran, 20-15, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24, 15-8.

Czarina Orros had 15 points, Dhiane Ibit scored 12 and Cherillyn Sindayen added 11 for the Lady Pirates.

Kathleen Barrinuevo exploded with 24 points, but that was not enough to prevent the Lady Knights from absorbing their seventh loss.

Kim Caberto scored 12 for Letran, while Cherry Genova and skipper Jan Carreon had 10 points each.
