ARELLANO bounced back from two sets down as Menchie Tubiera led a fiery rally to beat College of St. Benilde, 29-31, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 23-21, on in the women’s volleyball tournament of NCAA Season 90 on Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
CJ Rosario had a fever and played only the first two sets, but Tubiera stepped up and posted a career-high 35 hits to help the Lady Chiefs score their seventh win in as many outings.
Rosario, one of the leading MVP candidates, finished with just four hits.
Shirley Salamagos added 13, while Danna Henson and Elaine Sagun chipped in 12 apiece for Arellano.
The Lady Blazers, paced by Jannine Navarro's 24 and Jeanette Panaga's 22, suffered their second loss in seven matches but remained in the top four.
In men's play, St. Benilde edged Arellano, 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19.
Johnvic de Guzman had 20 points, while Marjun Alingasa and Racmade Etrone added 17 and 15, respectively, as the Blazers gained a share of third place with the Chiefs at 5-2.
In the juniors' section, Arellano U downed La Salle-Greenhills, 25-12, 25-18, 25-12, to improve to 3-3.
