ARELLANO and San Sebastian wound up with higher tiebreak scores to set up a title showdown in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
College of St. Benilde actually matched the 2-1 semifinal records of Arellano and San Sebastian but had the lowest score in the tiebreak.
SSC downed last year’s champion Perpetual Help, 25-22, 25-20, 25-19, on Monday, while the Arellano University Lady Chiefs made it to the finals for the second straight year despite losing to the CSB Lady Blazers, 16-25, 22-25, 25-12, 25-12, 12-15, in the semifinals.
The opener of the best-of-three title series is set on Jan. 21.
Gretchel Soltones led san Sebastian with 21 points.
"We're the underdogs because we aren't really that tall," said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb. "But we made up for it with our speed and desire, those really helped us."
In juniors action, Perpetual Help completed a sweep of the semifinals to claimthe first spot in the title series.
Malden Deldil scored 19 points as the Junior Altas turned back the SSC Staglets, 25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 25-11.
Vincent Recamara added 17 points, Jody Margaux Severo scored 12 and Ryuji Conrad Etorma had 10.
