EMILIO Aguinaldo College and College of St. Benilde had contrasting match results on Tuesday and edged last year's champion Perpetual Help via tiebreak to arrange a men's title showdown in the 90th NCAA volleyball competition at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Blazers downed the Arellano University Chiefs, 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-17, while the Generals fell to the Altas, 25-18, 23-25, 26-24, 19-25, 4-15.
That forged a three-way tie for No. 1 among EAC, St. Benilde and Perpetual Help, each with 2-1 win-loss slates.
After the quotient system was applied, EAC emerged with the highest tiebreak score at 1.088, while St. Benilde ended up second with 1.071 to claim the finals berths.
Perpetual Help had a 1.042 score and was eliminated, ending its four-year title reign.
The Generals, led by MVP race leader Howard Mojica, will make their second straight finals appearance after they were swept by the Altas in two matches last season.
The opener of the best-of-three series is set Jan. 21 and the second match set on Jan. 23. A third match, if necessary will be played on Jan. 26.
