EMILIO Aguinaldo College's Charmille Belleza and Clara Camille Lozada won two of their three semifinal matches on Sunday to reach the finals of the 90th NCAA women’s beach volleyball competition at the Boardwalk in Subic Bay.
After absorbing a 12-21, 19-21 defeat at the hands of San Sebastian's Gretchel Soltones and Bea Uy, Belleza and Lozada bounced back by defeating Arellano University's Angelica Legacion and Elaine Sagun, 15-21, 22-20, 15-11, and Perpetual Help's Jamela Suyat and Vhima Condada, 21-18, 21-19.
Belleza and Lozada forged a re-match with Soltones and Uy in the finals.
Legacion and Sagun dropped all three matches in the semifinals after sweeping the nine elimination round matches including wins over San Sebastian and EAC.
In men's play, College of St. Benilde’s Marjun Alingasa and Johnvic de Guzman and Mapua’s Philip Bagalay and Paul John Cuzon finished first and second after the semis to arrange a title showdown.
De Guzman and Alingasa turned back EAC's Juvie Mangaring and Kerth Melliza, 21-16, 21-12, Perpetual Help's Jack Kalingking and Rey Taneo, 21-10, 21-13, and Mapua’s Bagalay and Cuzon, 26-24, 21-14, to advance.
Bagalay and Cuzon joined them after walloping the Altas, 21-17, 14-21, 15-11, and the Generals, 19-21, 21-19, 15-10.
